This house was the general inspiration for our design. We wanted a one-level home with an open kitchen/living/dining area, big windows and a natural feel. Some of the finish details include paneled ceilings throughout, CVG fir trim and windows, satin nickel door handles and fixtures and wood barn doors used to separate the media room from the living room and master bath from the master bedroom.
Examples of homes with Shou Sugi Ban Siding
Bathrooms – In the master bath we will have a large soaking tub inside the shower area. Glass tile shower surround with white porcelain mosaic tile on the floor and shower pan. There will be large view windows from the shower area with etched glass for privacy. The guest bathroom will have the same tile theme.
Kitchen/Living/Dining – Our goal is to have an open concept floor plan that takes advantage of the large windows, light and views. Also, indoor/outdoor continuity with the deck is important. There will be a large kitchen island with built-in storage and room for seating/stools. The Fox Road House (built by Mike Hendricks) gives a good approximation of the kitchen island. The rest of the kitchen will be pretty straightforward with nice stainless Kitchenaid appliances and a large pantry. The custom wood cabinets will be grey slab style with quartz countertops. A slatted wood partition will divide the kitchen from the entry. There will be a modern propane fireplace centered along the view window wall and slider doors out to the deck off the living area.
Entry – There will be black slate tile floors in the entry. The rest of the flooring (except for the bathrooms) will be 4″ white oak with a natural finish.
